Public Protests Prompt Response from Moroccan Authorities

Rachid Khalfi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, confirmed that on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, public forces initiated a series of systematic operations across several regions of the kingdom aimed at maintaining public security and order.

He emphasized that these interventions were designed to manage the dynamics of protest movements while ensuring the protection of public safety and the rights and freedoms of individuals and groups.

In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Khalfi noted that some protests escalated into serious incidents that jeopardized public order. Violent gatherings included the use of knives, Molotov cocktails, and stone throwing, resulting in injuries to 263 public force members and 23 others, one of whom required medical attention in Oujda. The violence also led to substantial damage to 142 public force vehicles and 20 private cars.

The spokesperson further reported that protesters in various regions, including Ait Amira in Sus-Massa, and in Inzegane Ait Meloul, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Tiznit, and Oujda, broke into government offices, banks, and stores, committing acts of theft and vandalism.

Moreover, some protesters in Oujda obstructed an ambulance from providing aid and transporting injured persons.

  • Tiznit: 8 members injured; damage to 1 private vehicle.

  • Ait Baha: 5 members injured; damage to 12 public force vehicles and others.

  • Kelimia: 5 members injured; damage to 1 vehicle.

Khalfi stated that authorities responded in accordance with the law to individuals who insisted on violating security arrangements, with some undergoing identity verification under the supervision of the public prosecutor before being released after legal procedures. A total of 409 individuals have been placed in police custody under the direction of the appropriate public prosecutor.

Khalfi noted that some regions witnessed unauthorized demonstrations in response to calls disseminated via social media in recent days. Public forces intervened to disperse these gatherings while ensuring full compliance with legal provisions and professional standards governing their operations.

The Ministry of Interior strives to clarify these developments to the national public while reaffirming its commitment to uphold public order and guarantee the exercise of rights and freedoms, including the right to peaceful assembly within legal frameworks. The ministry will continue to implement necessary measures to protect public safety and order, promoting a stance of restraint and self-control against provocations, while strictly adhering to legal statutes and professional regulations.

Finally, Khalfi insisted that those responsible for unlawful actions will be dealt with decisively and in accordance with applicable legal provisions, ensuring accountability and legal consequences under the supervision of the pertinent public prosecutor.
