Hamouchi Discusses Countering Extremism with Emirati Officials

The fight against extremism and terrorism in the Sahel and sub-Saharan region was among the key issues discussed by Abderraouf Hamouchi, Director General of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, during his visit to the UAE.

Following a trip to Turkey, Hamouchi began a working visit to the UAE on Tuesday, September 23, accompanied by a significant security delegation, as part of efforts to strengthen security partnerships and enhance bilateral cooperation in various policing and security fields.

A statement from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance indicated that the visit featured a meeting with Emirati State Security Director Talal Rashid Al Zaabi, who was accompanied by high-ranking Emirati security officials. The discussions included bilateral consultations on various matters of mutual interest.

The source further noted that the joint discussions reviewed various security challenges and threats related to the current international and regional context, particularly the risks of terrorism and extremism in conflict areas, specifically in the sub-Saharan region of Africa.

Additionally, this meeting served as an opportunity to explore and discuss ways to enhance operational cooperation between the two countries in addressing different threats related to transnational terrorism and organized crime. This includes activating joint security operation channels, which have proven effective in international cooperation, as well as intensifying and diversifying forms and levels of bilateral cooperation, including the exchange of expertise in all security fields and enhancing coordination and information sharing to ensure a robust and proactive response to various hostile actions threatening the security of both nations.
