In road accidents in Morocco, 33 people lost their lives and 3,058 others were injured, 146 of whom suffered serious injuries, during the week from September 15 to 21. This occurred in 2,300 incidents recorded within urban areas.
The previous week, from September 8 to 14, 29 people died and 2,962 were injured, with 107 sustaining serious injuries in 2,200 road accidents in urban areas.
The General Directorate of National Security reports that the main causes of these accidents, in order of significance, are driver inattention, failure to respect right-of-way, excessive speeding, pedestrian inattention, and failure to maintain a safe distance.
Additionally, the directorate attributes road accidents in Morocco to a lack of control, lane changes without signaling, improper lane changes, failure to stop at stop signs, driving in prohibited zones, driving on the left side of the road, failure to stop at red traffic lights, driving under the influence, and reckless overtaking.
