The head of the Public Prosecution and Oversight of Criminal Policy at the Public Prosecution Office, Ahmed Wali Alami, stated that acts of rioting, vandalism, arson, and violence are criminal acts unrelated to freedom of expression, punishable under criminal law with severe prison sentences.
In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Alami clarified that “vandalism, arson, and acts of violence targeting public and private property and causing bodily harm to individuals, following unauthorized protests, have no connection whatsoever to freedom of expression. These are criminal acts punishable by heavy legal penalties, ranging from 10 to 20 years in prison, and in some cases up to 30 years, or even life imprisonment if aggravated circumstances apply.”
Alami emphasized that acts of rioting and the mentioned events primarily compromise the safety and security of citizens and their property. He asserted that the law must be applied rigorously in this context to protect their safety and peace of mind.
