Investigating Hicham Mendari: The Prosecutor Reveals His Brother’s Involvement in Spreading False Claims About His Death

In the well-known assassination case of Moroccan Hicham Mandari in Spain in 2004, the public prosecutor at the criminal court in Casablanca announced that the recently published videos “bear no relation to the truth.”

The prosecutor clarified in a statement that the recordings posted on a website contained a series of allegations regarding Mandari’s death, which prompted a judicial investigation, leading to the arrest of the deceased man’s brother. The prosecutor’s investigation revealed that the recordings were fictitious and fabricated. The evidence includes the following details:

– The brother’s spontaneous statements in the preliminary investigation indicated that he had purchased prepaid sim cards to communicate with the website owner since late 2023. He sought the owner’s phone number through social media and initiated contact, introducing himself as a retired security officer, misleading the owner into believing he had important information about Mandari’s death that he wished to share for publication on the website.

– In the preliminary investigation, the individual confirmed that the broadcasts on the website included fabricated information and fictitious events he created to mislead the website owner for publication.

– The individual also made false claims to the website that Mandari’s mother had died, despite her being alive.

– The aforementioned actions constitute crimes punishable under the criminal code. Consequently, the individual was presented to the public prosecutor, who decided, given the seriousness of the actions, to refer him to court while in custody.

On July 14, 2025, the court issued a ruling convicting him of the charges against him, sentencing him to five years of effective imprisonment and imposing a fine of 50,000 dirhams.
